After reading all the reviews and checking out Consumer Reports we decided on purchasing this set. We had heard that the picture at home wouldn’t be as good as the one in the store. This was NOT the case. If anything the picture at home is better…We recommend this set very highly…By Travelling Granny “Cougar” …This was my first major online purchase, and I was nervous about it. I researched plasmas to the point that it was becoming a joke in my family. It was difficult to find my choices in one store for side-by-side comparisons. I had it narrowed down to the Panasonic th50pz85u, th50pz800u, Samsung pn50a550 and pn50a650…Bottom line, I love this TV. I’m glad I researched so carefully, probably 100 hours or more. I can save you some of that time, if you’re considering this model. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed…By Bacrob “New HD Snob”-excerpts of actual user comments on Amazon.com
CNET Reviews:
The good: Reproduces deep black levels and highly accurate color; excellent uniformity with little false contouring; THX mode obviates in-depth calibration; relatively effective antireflective screen; solid connectivity with four HDMI and one PC input; handsome styling with single-pane design.
The bad: Expensive; blacks not quite as deep as the best plasmas; optional 24p mode introduces flicker; fewer picture controls than most HDTVs.
The bottom line: With the accuracy of its THX mode and great black-level performance, the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U is one of the best-performing HDTVs available.
