Back in the day, the typical television stand was usually a huge, clunky piece of furniture made of pressboard, complete with shelves or drawers to hide all of your junk. Often it wasn’t even designed for that purpose, and may have been some odd piece of furniture or end table. If you were like me, it may even have been a couple of milk crates! That may have worked okay back then, since the televisions themselves were big and clunky and took up a lot of room. These days, things are different. The new plasma, LCD and flat panel TV’s are much more stylish and have drastically different dimensions. The newer, modern LCD TV stand tends to have a more open style and is an attractive furnishing in its own right. There are tons of choices however, so let’s take a look at a few different options to help us decide what the best flat panel TV stand is for our purposes.

Perhaps the most important thing to consider when buying an LCD or plasma TV stand, is the size and weight of your television. Large flat screen TV’s can weigh well over 100 pounds. Make sure that your stand can handle this amount of weight.

Next decide if you need shelving to store all of your TV accessories such as DVD players, game consoles, cable boxes, remotes etc. Make sure that the size of the shelves are large enough to fit all of your components. Most of them will be, but it’s safer to know for sure. Also decide if you want open shelving or shelves with cabinet doors. The open shelf models can have different numbers of tiers and look very modern.

Another consideration is whether you want your LCD TV stand to have mounting brackets that will give your TV a more free-floating look, or if you would prefer to place your TV on the cabinet. There are also corner TV stands available if that would work better in your particular viewing room. Another option would be to get a swivel TV stand if you want to be able to change the viewing angle.

It’s also essential to pick a stand for your flat screen TV that matches the decor of your room. Oak tv stands, as well as other hard wood stands, have a more traditional look and would suit more traditional decors. Most of the glass or metal stands work well with a more contemporary look. A black glass tv stand looks very cool and hi-tech. I have a Bush TV stand with a black, high-gloss finish. It’s a very classy look.

Make sure that you spend some time in shopping around for your LCD TV stand. Some of them can cost quite a bit of money, so you want to be sure that you make the right choice. The right stand can really enhance your viewing environment.

A Plasma TV Stand is the Perfect Way to Hold Your New Television

By Chuck Chass

A plasma tv stand is a piece of furniture/equipment that holds a flat screen TV. These televisions are typically not free standing and need to be secured to something to hold them up. In cases where it cannot be wall mounted a stand may be the only option.

One of these stands is the new entertainment center. A stand usually has the same amenities as a conventional entertainment center. There are typically shelves on the stand and other storage space. It sits on the floor and usually has arms that the television is secured to. One of these typically does not take up much floor space and may offer several options to include, pivot abilities, tilting abilities and rotating abilities. Each option will raise the cost.

These can be purchased most anywhere home electronics are sold. There will be several considerations when purchasing one of your own. The size and weight of the television that the stand will be used for should be the first consideration since they are made to hold a specific amount of weight.

A flat screen television can be very heavy it is important that the stand that is purchased can support the weight. Where it will be placed in the room is also another consideration. There are styles that are designed to sit in the corner of the room the base is angled to fit nicely in a corner. They can also be purchased in most furniture stores.

The cost is completely reliant on the options that are available. The options that are available can be one or all of available options. The amount of money that will be paid for it also is relative to the manufacturer and where it is purchased. There can be a decent television stand had for around two hundred dollars.

These are an absolute necessity if there is a flat screen television to be purchased. A television stand is built specifically to hold plasma televisions, which are very heavy and very thin they are typically not free standing. A plasma stand is similar to conventional entertainment centers; they have storage areas and can often hold other entertainment equipment.

It’s important that you figure out where you will put your new television before you purchase it. Visit our site and get more advice on finding a good plasma stand for your home.

If you just bought a flat screen TV chances are you can’t wait to install it and watch some movies or sports on it. Not to mention showcase it to all your friends! To save time and money you might decide to install it yourself. Mounting a flat screen TV isn’t that complicated, but there are a few things you need to know. Beside the question of what type of mount you want to use, there are 3 other deadly mistakes you want to avoid when installing your flat screen TV.

1) How much weight can a mount support? Watching your brand new (and rather expansive) 50 inch plasma TV fall down because you bought a mount that only supports 33 pounds (for the 15 inch flat screens) is about as un fun as it gets. Avoid this mistake by making sure that your mount of choice can support the weight of your TV.

2) The wall you are mounting it onto… what is it made of? Choosing a wrong mount is not the only way to watch your TV get smashed when it falls. You can also achieve this nerve wrecking result by mounting it on a wall that does not support that weight! If a wall is made of sheetrock it will need to be reinforced or you can build a bracket that will support the weight of your TV. If the wall is made of bricks or concrete you need to make sure you use the right nails for such types of walls.

3) Don’t forget about cable management. A lot less dramatic than the first two, but still very annoying mistake. There are quite a few cables and wires that connect to a flat screen TV, from cable to sound system to power supply. Make sure you know exactly how all this cables will be managed (some TV mounts have a built in space for cable management for example) before you start mounting your TV only to realize that there will be lots of ugly cables all over the place.

Hope I didn’t scare you with this article! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that hard to install a flat screen TV, but there are a few things like the above that, if you don’t think about could cost you dearly. Avoid those and other mistakes when it comes to installing your Flat Screen TV!

An often overlooked piece of living room furniture is the humble TV stand. After all, it just kind of sits there and doesn’t really do much except act as a base for your plasma or LCD TV. Or so it seems. Since your television is the centerpiece of your home theater, you should showcase it in the best possible light. This is why I really like the modern, contemporary look of black glass TV stands. These stands are very pleasing aesthetically and can really accentuate your room decor. As well, they are functional in that they help you to organize all of the rest of your home theater components and accessories.

Most of the glass TV stands out there have metal frames. The frames themselves come in a variety of finishes. An always popular choice is black glass with a chrome frame. It tends to have a modern futuristic look to it. You can even find styles that have a wood look. Combined with gold or brass accents, these glass TV stands have a very elegant look. The most popular units use colored glass, most commonly beautiful black tempered glass. It has a smokey look that is very clean and sharp looking, yet transparent enough so that you can still see your other home theater components. I have a chrome and black glass TV stand in my main viewing room and couldn’t be happier with it. It greatly accentuates the look of my plasma TV which in turn, enhances the whole decor of the room. It really acts as a wonderful centerpiece for my living room.

I have a multi-tiered version, which gives me alot of options for organizing all of my audio and video components, such as the satellite box, DVD player and high-end stereo, as well as storage for all of my DVD’s and CD’s. Of course you could always opt for a smaller unit if you don’t need room for alot of components. It is a good idea to get a size that not only works with your TV, but also works with your room space. Corner TV stands are very space efficient and can help keep your floor space nicely organized, if that’s what you require. Glass TV stands are also available with casters to make it easy to roll out of the way for cleaning or to move around the room for different viewing angles.

Black glass TV stands are a relatively new development. There have been some cool advances in glass technology recently which makes black tempered glass readily available. These stands have become very popular due to their functionality and great looks. Your beautiful, high-tech television deserves to be showcased in one of these future classics. The easiest way to choose one is to browse around online, as you can easily check out the many styles and prices from the comfort of your own home.

Now that LCD and plasma TV’s have become so popular and have taken the place of box-like CRT televisions in many homes, slimmer flat screen TV stands are taking the place of the older, bulky entertainment centers. The whole look and function of these modern TV stands is quite different from the old traditional cabinets. Since flat panel’s are so thin, the stands can also be thinner. Flat panel TV stands have become popular because they save floor space and come in many classy designs.

Flat screen TV’s come in a wide range of sizes. The most popular screen sizes are currently between 32 inches and 50 inches, though larger sizes are becoming more in demand. Because of their size, most traditional cabinets can’t accomodate the newer plasma and LCD televisions. Since flat screen TV stands are made specifically for the newer models, they mesh well together and help accentuate your room decor. The look is modern and very classy. I personally like the look of the contemporary looking black glass TV stands.

Alternatively, one could opt to go with ruggedly designed flat panel wall mounts. These usually work best with the smaller flat screens such as the 32 inch models. In my home, I have a 32 inch screen wall mounted in the bedroom, and have the black TV stand in the main viewing room supporting a 50 inch plasma TV. This isn’t a cheap TV stand, but it is very solid and functional. It has multiple tiered shelves that house all of my other home theater components. It makes a very good looking unit and gives easy access to the other components. I used a little bit of foresight and chose a stand that had more shelves than what I currently needed. I’m glad that I did, as the extra space has really come in handy.

Home entertainment technology is advancing at a rapid rate. The sleek new flat screen televisions do attract alot of attention, as well they should. But just make sure not to overlook the importance of the humble flat screen TV stand. Take some time looking for a perfect match for your LCD TV and you will have a well organized and very attractive home entertainment center.

It’s usually just an afterthought. After all, they’re not glamorous, sexy or even fun. But they are an essential piece of equipment if you want to have your TV up on a wall. The right flat screen wall mount for your entertainment room will allow you to get the most out of your LCD or plasma TV investment. A well mounted television will be functional, providing great viewing angles, and can also accentuate your room decor. However, there are a few important things to consider before purchasing this basic piece of equipment.

The first and most important consideration is to decide where you want to mount your TV. If you’re mounting on drywall, you have to know if your wall has wood studs. A basic stud finder will help you to determine the proper placement. If you have metal studs, installing your flat screen TV mount can be more complicated. It’s also possible to mount your TV on a concrete wall or brick fireplace by using proper concrete anchors. If you get your flat screen TV wall mount from a good third-party supplier, then the proper fastening hardware will be included. Just be aware that the hardware that comes with your TV may be only adequate at best.

It’s also essential to determine the size of your TV. There is a considerable weight difference between a smaller flat panel than say a large 50 inch model. There are different wall brackets made specifically for different sizes of televisions. A flat panel TV wall mount made for a bigger TV’s will most likely connect to multiple studs rather than a single stud.

You will next need to consider the functionality required for your flat screen wall mount. Specifically, you need to determine if you want to be able to adjust your screen to different viewing angles. There are mounts that will provide the flexibility for whatever requirements you have. In brief, you can get flat, tilting, tilt & swivel and full motion mounts. Whether you just want your TV mounted flat against the wall, or if you prefer to have the flexibility to adjust your screen to almost any position and viewing angle, there is a wall mount that will provide that functionality. For more information on the different types of wall mounts available, read the articles on “flat screen tv wall mounts“ and “flat screen wall mounts” on this website.

Fianlly, you will want to figure out how you want to manage your cables. First determine how you plan to connect your TV to your other home entertainment components. For a clean, uncluttered look, you can install a wall plate to allow you to run your cables behind your wall. This is probably the most popular option. Just make sure to consult an electrician if necessary, and be sure to not run any power cables through the walls. Ususally, you will want to have a receptacle mounted behind your TV for electricity. Again, a good quality flat screen TV mount will come with built in cable management options.

So even though buying a flat screen wall mount isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, it is important to consider all of the factors involved. Then you can get on with the more enjoyable things such as watching sports and movies. Properly mounting your flat screen is a great way to showcase your prized possession.

Flat mounts are the simplest and probably the least expensive of the flat screen wall mounts that are most popular. They tend to be very secure. You won’t have to worry about your beautiful new TV crashing to the ground. Ideally, you would want to shop around for a wall bracket with a very thin profile which will enable you to mount your television flush to the wall. This option is the ultimate in space-saving convenience. It’s also quite attractive aesthetics-wise, and makes your screen look like a dynamic picture frame.

Tilting flat panel tv mounts give you a little bit more flexibility than flat mounts. It basically has the same advantages of a flat mount, since you can adjust it so that your TV is flat against the wall, or you can adjust the tilt angle as well. Tilting mounts are however, a bit thicker than pure flat mounts, so your TV will have some space behind it. Typically, you can adjust the tilt angle up to around 15°. This can come in handy if you prefer your flat screen mounted higher up on the wall in relation to the viewing area. Also, the ability to adjust the screen angle may help to eliminate any glare caused by light coming from a window.

The tilt & swivel wall mount adds even more flexibility. These types of flat screen tv mounts allow you to pivot the screen from left to right, as well as tilting the angle up-and-down, which gives you the ability to watch your TV from our lot of different seating positions. Again, this type of wall mount will create a bigger space between your television and the wall, but you may prefer having the flexibility of movement. Usually this type of mount is used for smaller LCD or plasma TV’s, perhaps up to 32 inches in size.

Cantilever mounts provide the most flexibility for positioning your flat panel TV. These brackets allow you to swing your TV away from the wall on an articulating arm. This allows you to move your whole television to different left and right positions. In addition, cantilever mounts also tilt up-and-down, as well as pivot left and right. You can adjust the viewing angle of your TV to practically any desired position. You even have the ability to swing the TV around so that you can position the viewing angle so that it can be seen in two different, adjacent rooms. Very handy indeed.

These plasma TV wall mounts represent the most common types available. The decision on which one to ultimately buy really depends upon the functionality required. This is usually mandated by the style and size of your viewing room. Whichever one you do choose, will greatly enhance your TV viewing experience.

Your new plasma TV represents a significant investment. Choosing the perfect stand is the best way to showcase your new flat screen tv. You should spend some time in shopping for the best stand for your new television. Plasma TV stands should be functional as well as stylish. It should suit the configuration, size and weight of your new television. Whatever style or design you choose, there are many flat screen tv stands that will harmonize with your interior decor.

When shopping for a stand for your new plasma TV, you’ll find a wide variety of styles, materials, sizes and designs available. Higher end flat panel TV stands are generally made from hardwood, metal or glass. Each choice has its own advantages.

Glass TV Stands

Glass TV stands are a great choice, as they can impart an elegant and modern feel to your decor. A higher end glass TV stand can almost be a work of art. An attractive illusion can be created with contemporary glass or metal frames that can make your plasma or LCD TV appear to the floating in midair. In addition, glass stands have the strength to support a heavy television.

Wood TV Stands

Hardwood stands provide a more traditional and authentic feel. Wood stands are even available in different engraved designs which make them look almost antique. High quality hardwood stands come in oak, ash, cherry, walnut and maple just to name a few. Just like a perfect picture frame, these solid wood stands provide a warm and serene setting for your flat screen TV. For more traditionally furnished homes, a standard hardwood stand may be more suitable for showcasing your prized investment.

Contemporary TV Stands

Metal TV stands for plasma televisions offer some of the most modern and contemporary designs available in home entertainment units. They can accommodate the largest screen sizes while maintaining a stylish look and stable platform for your television. Metal stands exemplify the modern and state-of-the-art entertainment unit that looks great and offers enhanced functionality. Metal stands are by far the easiest the keep clean. A common feature includes the use of fine quality metals with a powder coated finish to prevent fingerprints and marks from showing up on the stand, while at the same time protecting its surface from unwanted scratches. Metal plasma and LCD TV stands are modern and stylish and come in different finishes like black or silver. Black tv stands look very contemporary and fit the color schemes of most homes. Metal stands are sleek lightweight and durable.

Cheap TV Stands

Please don’t waste your money on off-brand TV cabinets or some cheap audiovisual equipment rack just save a dollar or two. Putting your prized plasma or LCD TV into an old-fashioned, laminated entertainment center is a lot like housing a fancy sports car in a tool shed.

In conclusion, shopping for good quality plasma TV stands are really worth the effort. Choose a plasma TV stand that harmonizes with your home decor. The choice of material will depend upon the current furnishings in your home. Make sure that you opt for quality over price. In this way, you will maximize the value of your hefty flat screen TV purchase. You’ll be glad you did.

There are many different options available for mounting your flat panel TV. The most common options are stands or wall mounts. Flat screen wall mounts do have some advantages over flat screen TV stands. Depending on the style of your room, wall mounts may look better and can also save space. They’re often less expensive than stands. Many flat screen TV wall mounts are either adjustable or universal so that you can still use them if you happen to purchase a different flat panel television.

The five most popular types of flat screen wall mounts are:

1] full motion
2] articulating
3] swivel
4] tilting
5] fixed

Full Motion Wall Mounts

Full motion wall mounts are very functional and provide the most flexibility in flat screen tv mounts. They allow you to change the tilt angle as well as allowing you to swivel the television a full 360° depending on where it is installed. This setup comes in handy if you want to be able to watch TV in adjacent rooms of your house. It’s possible to have it set up in your living room while being able to swivel your TV so that you can watch it in the kitchen, for example. Another useful installation of a full motion wall mount would be in a hospital waiting room, where multiple viewing angles may be beneficial. One disadvantage is that full motion mounts will extend your TV away from the wall, depending on the placement. They are also generally more expensive than the other types.

Articulating Wall Mounts

An articulating wall mount will allow you to tilt the TV upward down as well as pivot it left and right. It’s not as flexible as a full motion wall mount, but maybe more functional for your particular viewing environment. Articulating mounts are useful when you want to be able to change the viewing angle of your TV in your viewing room. Again, they require a bit of space behind the TV in order to function properly. These will typically cost a little bit less than full motion wall mounts.

Swivel Wall Mounts

Swivel wall mounts allow you to pivot your TV to change the viewing angle from left to right. These wall mounts will cause your TV to sit somewhat far from the wall as well. They are handy if you just need to be able to change your viewing angle left and right and have your TV mounted at a fixed height. The swivel wall mounts are usually in the midrange of prices for flat panel tv mounts.

Tilting Wall Mounts

Tilting wall mounts are fairly simple and just allow you to tilt your flat screen TV up or down. In some people’s homes, that’s all that you need. You may desire to tilt the TV screen up-and-down depending on whether you’re sitting in a chair or lying on the floor. A tilting wall mount works perfectly fine, especially in smaller rooms. Sometimes a slight tilt of the TV screen is all that’s needed to eliminate glare, for example.

Fixed Wall Mounts

Fixed wall mounts are the most basic type mount. They merely allow you to attach your TV in a fixed position on your wall. Even though fixed wall mounts aren’t as flexible as the other types, they may be in fact a perfect choice for your particular viewing room. Sometimes it’s desirable to have your TV flat on the wall, much like a picture frame. It can be an attractive part of the decor. Fixed wall mounts are also ideal if you have very limited space in your room and you want your LCD or plasma TV to be out of the way as much as possible. Of course fixed flat screen wall mounts are usually the cheapest option.

In conclusion, your final decision when purchasing a flat screen wall mount will depend largely upon the flexibility that you need as well as the price that you can afford. You have to take into consideration the size of your viewing space and the different seating arrangements in the room. You also have to consider that maybe LCD or plasma TV wall mounts are not a good choice for your home. Flat screen TV stands or ceiling mounts may even work better for you. Shopping online for different options is an easy way to check out a lot of choices to help you make the best decision.

Modern flat screen televisions have come along way since their old CRT tv counterparts dominated the marketplace. These new models come in sleek, elegant designs and by themselves, add significant value to the decor of your home. The last thing you want to do is to stick your beautiful, new flat panel on some old end table or makeshift stand. This article will focus on some of the important things to consider when shopping for LCD TV stands.

Flat screen tv stands come in a variety of elegant styles and choosing the right one will complement your viewing environment. Since lcd tv usually comes in a wider variety of sizes than plasma tv, their stands also come in a wider variety of sizes. An important factor in deciding on the right stand is in matching the furnishings already in your room. Rooms with a more contemporary design would be suitable for modern glass tv stands or stands made of brushed metal. Black tv stands tend to look more high-tech as well. Wood stands made of materials like oak, may be more suitable for homes with more traditional designs and furnishings.

The size of your viewing room is also a factor when shopping for either lcd or plasma tv stands. Depending on the layout your room, corner stands may be the ideal choice. They are designed to fit nicely in a corner of a room while taking up only as much space as necessary. You could also opt for a swivel stand, though they may require a little more space between the wall and the tv set up. It can be really handy to have your tv on a swivel to enable you to turn the TV in any direction for better viewing angles, no matter where you are in your room. If mobility is important, make sure that the stand is on wheels and is of a size that is easy to move around the room. Perhaps you’ll even want to move your television around to different rooms in the house.

For many people, the price of the unit may also be a factor. Flat panel tv stands range in price from around $100 and can go as high as a few thousand dollars. There are some amazing and classy units out there which can cost a pretty penny. Cheap lcd tv stands aren’t hard to find either, but be careful about sacrificing quality in order to save a few dollars. The stand that you choose must be able to support the weight of your flat screen TV. Make sure that you check the manual that comes with your TV and find out how much it weighs. Then look at the specifications of the stand that you’re considering in order to be certain that it can support the weight of the television.

With the variety of styles and designs available, it can actually be a lot of fun browsing around online for LCD TV stands. There are a lot of really creative and attractive units out there these days. It shouldn’t be hard to find the flat screen TV stand that’s perfect for you.

The TH-58PZ700U does not look like it’s trying too hard. Instead, it lets the big screen speak for itself. The glass is surrounded by a thick glossy black bezel on all sides, with a door on the bottom to keep controls out of sight. Another hatch hides a slot for SD memory cards. Speakers–matching in color and barely noticeable–are set on both sides of the display. The understated look would be an elegant addition to any decor.

Actual Customer Feedback:

…I had originally bought the 50PZ700u and I loved it, but kept thinking I could go bigger so I got this one. It has a beautiful picture using a High-Def source and a very good picture using a standard def source. I’m viewing it from 13′ away and have it hooked up to a regular DVD player, DirecTV HR10-250 HD Tivo and a PS3…By C. L. Olson “HD Geek”

…

as of right now this is by far the best tv on the market, plasma techonology beats out every other technology in the over 46 inch screen category and panasonic is the only company making a 1080p consumer model right now with a built in tuner and pedestal stand, I was one of the very first people to own this tv when it came out and it does not dissappoint, the picture quality is the best I’ve seen and SD programming looks very good, but this baby was born for blu-ray and when hooked up to a blu-ray player the images are ready to come out and grab you, it’s like having a professional movie theatre in your house the picture is that good with blu-ray…By johnny di “john”

…This is our second plasma monitor. Our first was a Pioneer, years ago, and made me wonder what the big hoopla over HD was about. This monitor helped me to understand! The picture is so sharp, even with non-HD programming. HD images are sharp with clear colors and flawless contrast. The black tones are true, without any greenness or inkiness (both problems with our old Pioneer). My favorite part about it is that I sometimes can’t even tell that what I’m watching isn’t in HD. It just makes everything look great…By habblie “So it goes.”

CNET Reviews:

The good: Produces a deep level of black; highly accurate initial color temperature; clean, sharp image; sleek design.

The bad: Expensive; less impressive connectivity than other high-end HDTVs; subpar standard-def performance; less-effective glare-reducing screen.

The bottom line: While it costs more than just about any rear-projection big-screen, the 58-inch Panasonic TH-58PZ700U plasma offers superb image quality.

…I have had my PN50a650 for a almost 2 weeks now, and have been very impressed. Colors can be calibrated to be almost perfectly accurate, and black levels are great as well. There are not many professional reviews of the 650 series out yet, but the reviews of the 550 series have been extremely positive…By Kikuchiy0 “kikuchiy0″

…

I have used Samsung for years but always the LCD. This is my first Plasma. I stayed away from plasma because of all the bad hype. This was a mistake.. This new Samsung is great. The plasma picture on this, is in another league compared to LCD…By James Marshall “Florida Guy”

…I just got this Samsung plasma from Amazon and have been absolutely amazed at its performance since. The TV has the touch of red which is nice and does not attract the eye unless you have it turned off. Now for the colors and good stuff. I have owned several LCD TV’s (Philips & Sceptre) and they are very good but nothing compares to the Samsung PN50A650. We just finished watching Tropic Thunder on our LG BD300 Blu-ray player and the graphics are lifelike. It is almost like Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. are performing in my living room…By William Settle “setto69″

CNET Reviews:

The good: Highly accurate primary colors and color temperature; numerous picture controls and settings; solid connectivity including four HDMI inputs and one PC input; friendly, intuitive menu design; sleek styling.

The bad: Black levels not quite as deep as those of the best plasmas; confusing picture mode arrangement; red coloring may not appeal to everyone.

The bottom line: Although its black levels aren’t the deepest, accurate color and a red frame still distinguish the Samsung PN50A650 from the pack.

Actual Customer Feedback:

…Just got my 5020 last week and this is the best TV that I have seen. I did a lot of research at high end stores and the side by side comparisons with the older 5010 model vs. any other tv (lcd or plasma) wasn’t even close. I was looking at the newest Samsung plasmas and LCD’s (Toc) but the black levels on the Pioneer really made a big difference…By M. Kang “El Tiger”

…

I have been researching HDTVs for what seems like forever, until this month when I finally pulled the trigger. You cannot go wrong with this TV. This is my first HDTV, but I consider myself fairly tech savvy and somewhat of an audiophile. That said I don’t have any history with HDTVs so can’t compare this TV with anything I’ve owned in the past, but rather friends’ TVs or in store comparisons…By JC “jeffhcb”

…The big question many of you are probably asking is should I order from amazon and save almost $1000 over best buy or other big box store? My first HDTV I purchased from a locally owned specialty retailer. It gave me the confidence I needed since I knew little about HDTVs at that time. They offered a 15 day no questions asked return policy. For this Pioneer purchase, I went with amazon.com and saved $1000. Shipping was free…By RonH

CNET Reviews:

The good: Produces the deepest shade of black of any big-screen display we’ve tested; accurate color decoding; dejudder processing option; 72Hz mode for 1080p/24 sources works well; superb antireflective screen; streams photo, music, and video files over home network; fine connectivity with four HDMI and one PC input.

The bad: Expensive; inaccurate primary colors; lacks advanced picture controls; frame causes minor reflections.

The bottom line: Best-in-class black levels and excellent all-around performance places the Pioneer PDP-5020FD near the top of the picture quality heap, but it will cost you.

Actual Customer Feedback:

…The product line is truly future proof and ready to adjust to the rapidly evolving HD industry. If you are like me, you may also be considering the only other real competition in the high-end Plasma HDTV market, Pioneer. If so, consider this; beginning next year Pioneer will no longer continue developing their HD product line from scratch. Instead, they will be outsourcing for raw plasma displays and then tweaking them. Where will they get these raw displays? You guessed it, Panasonic…By Sean C. Stephens “Sean The HD Guy”

…

After reading all the reviews and checking out Consumer Reports we decided on purchasing this set. We had heard that the picture at home wouldn’t be as good as the one in the store. This was NOT the case. If anything the picture at home is better…We recommend this set very highly…By Travelling Granny “Cougar”

…This was my first major online purchase, and I was nervous about it. I researched plasmas to the point that it was becoming a joke in my family. It was difficult to find my choices in one store for side-by-side comparisons. I had it narrowed down to the Panasonic th50pz85u, th50pz800u, Samsung pn50a550 and pn50a650…Bottom line, I love this TV. I’m glad I researched so carefully, probably 100 hours or more. I can save you some of that time, if you’re considering this model. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed…By Bacrob “New HD Snob”

There always seems to be an ongoing debate about which is better: LCD or Plasma TV. There’s alot of opinions out there, so I’ll just list a few facts to help you decide.

LCD TV disadvantages :

- Artifacting: LCD screens have an inherent delay problem. When a fast moving object moves across a LCD screen the delay of LCD technology causes trails because the screen can’t keep up. This phenomenon is called “artifacting”. This is less of a problem with the newer name-brand models, but becomes more noticable as the screen size gets bigger.

- Contrast: LCD displays have less contrast as they use a backlight which shines through the lcd panels. The panels allow or block light depending on what is required to produce an image or a color. The black levels can’t go totally “black” and look various shades of glowing grey.

- Field Of Vision: Even the best LCD tv has field of vision problems as your viewing angle moves from the center off to either side.

- Cost: very expensive when you get to the larger size screens (over 35 inches).

- You have to be careful to avoid the plethora of no name junk units on market. Stick to name brands with proper warranties. Pixel failure can be a real problem with no name LCD screens, not to mention the poor picture and video quality.

LCD TV Advantages:

- Quality units have good brightness levels

- Energy efficient gives lo operating cost.

- Good life expectancy. Expect 30 to 50,000 hours bulb life according to Sharp

Plasma TV Screen Disadvantages:

- Image retention: Plasma screens can suffer from burn in if a still image is left on the display for too long. If your primary use of the plasma screen is for TV viewing and dvd, image retention will not be a factor. And it really is not much of a factor at all anymore with the newer models.

- No tuners: Alot of plasma screens don’t have tuners. This is really a non-factor as you will be using satellite, digital cable or external HD boxes anyways.

Plasma TV Screen Advantages:

- Long life: the average name brand plasma tv will last 30 to 50,000 hours. This is around 20 years at 6 hours per day.

- Field of vision: A plasma screen tv has a field of vision of almost 180 degrees without loss of picture quality. From any angle you will have a great picture

- Brightness: Plasma screens are very bright. 4 to 5 times brighter then an average tv.

- Great contrast: very good black levels. The blacks are “black”.

- Lower cost when you go into the larger screens

- Good picture response: There is virtually no delay in any name brand plasma and therefore no artifacting that is experienced on LCD screens.

- Natural looking picture: plasma tv colors tend to be natural looking and more accurate. Less of the “digital” look common in LCD tv.

- Upgradeability: Many plasma screens have upgradeable video cards that “future proof ” your plasma tv.

I may be biased, but my personal choice is plasma tv. I really like the better viewing angles and sharp contrast. I did alot of research before purchasing and decided that the only choice for me in the “LCD or plasma tv” debate was to go for plasma. I’m happy I did.

When shopping around for your television purchase, you should consult plasma tv reviews from various sources. But what should you look for when reading a plasma tv review?

One of the first points to consider is picking a screen size that is suitable for the floor plan of your home entertainment room. Common screen sizes can be 32″, 40″, 42″, 46″, 50″, 61″, or 63″. The larger screens are not necessarily better, unless you have alot of room. For the optimal viewing experience, you need to maintain the right distance between your viewing area and your television screen.

Make sure you are aware of the audio options available to you. Keep in mind that some plasma tvs have built-in sound and others (referred to as monitors) do not. If you already have a high-quality sound system, you may not need built-in audio.

Check that your plasma tv is HDTV compatible (most if not all are these days). Even if you don’t currently subscribe to hi-def broadcasts from your cable or satellite provider, you most lilely will as HDTV is quickly becoming the standard.

As far as the overall quality of your plasma tv is concerned, all you really have to do is go with a name brand. I would personally go with Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Visio, LG or possibly Hitachi. Then it’s a matter of choosing the right size and a price that fits your budget.

I will be providing reviews of individual models on this site, so make sure to read them before making your purchase.

Plasma screen televisions are high-tech and offer the latest in display technology. They feature flat panel tv displays and large screen sizes and produce excellent image quality and enhanced viewability. Plasma screen tv can be viewed from sharp angles with very little loss of picture intensity.

Plasma screen televisions are made up of an array of cells, known as pixels, which are composed of 3 sub-pixels, corresponding to the colors red, green and blue. They are called plasma screen televisions because they use gas in a plasma state to react with phosphors in each sub-pixel within the tv panel to produce red, green and blue light. This technology is capable of producing billions of colors giving the viewer clear, sharp images and exceptional color.

Plasma screen televisions have higher resolution than conventional television sets, and are capable of displaying full HDTV. The television screens are perfectly flat which eliminates the edge distortion that you get with conventional curved screens.

The relationship between the width and height of a tv display is called its aspect ratio. Plasma screen televisions use the widescreen 16:9 format which is the same used for cinematic movies. This is the proper aspect ratio for HDTV, and also allows many DVD-Video movies to be viewed in widescreen format, as originally seen in the theater.

Plasma screen televisions are the current state-of-the-art in display technology. As soon as you watch your programs on one, you will see why they have become so popular. In my home, plasma screen televisions are a must have!

While i wouldn’t go so far to say that there are alot of super cheap plasma tv sets on the market yet, the trend is definitely toward lower prices.

Also, with the number of plasma televisions being sold these days, there is alot more choice available if choosing to purchase a used cheap plasma tv. Of course buying used brings alot more risk into the equation. Personally, I opt for having my purchase being covered by full warranty…but that’s just me.

You can definitely find deals on a cheap plasma tv, covered by warranty, by shopping online. If you check out some of my product pages, you’ll see that the prices are very competitive and can beat what you will find locally in many cases.

Just make sure that you shop carefully and get all of the features that you’re looking for. Investing in a cheap plasma tv can give you alot of value for your dollar if you make sure to shop wisely.

If you’ve never watched programming on a full hd plasma tv (high definition), then you’re in for a real treat. High definition tv is here to stay, and you’ll know why the first time you view it. The super-sharp, crisp images are awesome and makes the viewing experience life-like. Watching a program on a full hd plasma tv gives you the best television watching experience possible.

HDTV is the new standard of television viewing. It’s redefining how cable systems attract customers. Satellite tv and cable tv companies now transmit HDTV broadcasts as they become available.

HDTV is an upgrade to digital technology from analog technology. HDTV is a new format that delivers vastly improved picture and audio. This format is not compatible with most current tv sets. You have to make sure your new tv is specifically designed for HD (HD-ready). Look for a full hd plasma tv when shopping around.

State-of-the-art audio is another compelling feature of a full hd plasma tv. HDTV is capable of theater-quality audio because it uses the Dolby Digital (AC-3) format. This high quality audio combined with the high-resolution picture of full hd plasma tv gives you a viewing experience that is superior (imho) to watching movies in a theater.

A full hd plasma tv is perfect for the television afficionado who wants a massive screen with full HD resolution, 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio and theater-quality sound.

One of the most desirable qualities of a flat plasma tv is the physical size in comparison to CRT television. I’m talking about flat referring to physical dimensions; not just about the flat screen. Because the plasma TV is flat, it looks stylish and hi-tech as well as saving space.

There are multiple ways in which you can display a flat plasma tv inside your home. First of all, a flat plasma television can be hung flush against the wall, much like the way that you would hang a picture (using proper brackets of course). You can use the wall brackets that come with the flat plasma tv to tilt it up, down or sideways. You can also easily display your flat plasma TV in a built-in entertainment center. It’s very versatile in this way.

A flat plasma tv really looks good and even enhances the decor of a room. It’s an attractive yet functional piece of furniture. The same cannot be said of the outdated, bulky crt televsion. Score another point for plasma tv!

This article highlights some of the features of LCD and plasma tv in contrast to older CRT (cathode ray tube) television technology. I’ll explore the differences between LCD and plasma tv in another article.

Both LCD and plasma tv offer many advantages over the traditional CRT tv. Their large, flat screens have sharper pictures, deeper contrast and less glare. The cinematic 16:9 aspect ratio is a must for serious movie buffs and gamers. LCD and plasma tv is sleeker and less bulky, and they emit less radiation than cathode ray.

The reorientation of most consumers towards LCD and plasma tv sets has led to a major drop in CRT tv sales, and some companies have even taken these products off the market. Prices are dropping for both LCD and plasma tv, and are getting lower by the week. Falling LCD and plasma tv prices mean great deals for consumers which is great news for all television afficionados. Basically, the old CRT technology is outdated and will likely disappear entirely.

Widescreen plasma tv is the epitome of high class entertainment. It’s like viewing a panoramic scene through a large window. Widescreen is the only way to go for watching theatrical movies on television or even for gaming.

Widescreen refers to the width of the screen in relation to its height. This is called a tv screen’s aspect ratio. Regular tv’s have the squarish 4:3 aspect ratio whereas most modern plasmas have the wide 16:9 aspect ratio.

Cinematic films are produced in 16:9 which is why the edges of the picture are cut off when viewing on a 4:3 screen. You actually miss alot when watching the cinematic format on regular screens. Widescreen plasma tv is the way to go when setting up a home theater system. It makes the theatrical experience come alive.

Another practical benefit to getting a widescreen plasma tv is for gaming. The widescreen gives you the ability to use the split screen option on many different games without feeling cramped. This is especially true on many first person shooter games. If you’re an avid gamer, a widescreen hdtv will greatly enhance your gaming experience.

Going the widescreen plasma route is the way to go for most people nowadays. The crisp definition and full aspect ratio make watching movies a living experience. Unless you’re content with watching old sitcoms on a boxy screen, you owe it to yourself to check out the widescreen plasma tv experience for yourself.
